Among the wheat fields of Eastern Oregon sits quite a number of small, historic towns.
One of these is Weston, Oregon where an annual event is the Potato Fest. As I understand it, a number of years ago, Weston Mountain actually was a potato growing area and the community apparently celebrated potato harvest. Now the community gathers to honor the tradition at Weston's Memorial Hall. There is a large raffle with many donated items from businesses and locals alike to help support the school. Bingo is a popular activity to also benefit the school as far as I know. A book sale in the basement with proceeds to help the Weston Library. A lunch served to benefit the FFA Chapter. Then there are the vendors with a variety of wares offered for sale--many handcrafted and others offering popular items such as Tupperware, etc. The Rebecca Lodge brings a beautiful handmade quilt they have created and raffle tickets sell readily with each purchaser hoping they will be the winner.
Hopefully, this gives you a glimpse of a small community working together ......and having a good time, as well!
A few photos below will show you how I spent yesterday, as a participant with a vendor table. Thank You, Weston for giving us a venue!

As a matter of fact, all through that area and Athena too was potato growing country. In the 70's we used to go there to Athena somewhere and buy them by the 100 pound bag. You could get the 'culls' ones too big for the market for a very cheap price. I could cook one for the 4 of us for a meal. It was awesome.
I did the sale once years ago during the summer. It was fun.
Thanks, Carol! Very interesting addition. Hope someone else has some history to contribute!
Where are the photos of your stuff??
Ahh, Tammi. They are on the other pages! Didn't take any of my vendor table, wanted to show what a small town event can be.
